The college is situated in the town of Hadsund by the beautiful Mariager Fjord. It is firmly anchored in the local community and maintains a closely knit network with private companies, public enterprises and educational institutions in the area.

Tech College Mariagerfjord offers basic VET programmes for Chefs, Bakers, Metalworkers, Carpenters, Motor Mechanics, Electricians and Data Technicians. The college has practical training facilities and workshops which are fitted with modern equipment to resemble the realities of the industry.

All together the college covers five of the now twelve educational streams in the basic VET system, which the students can try out within the premises of Tech College Mariagerfjord, and by doing so they can gradually narrow in their choice of educational pathway and occupation.

With a total of twelve employees, out of whom seven are VET teachers, the college is able to ensure close, personal relations between students and staff. All in all Tech College Mariagerfjord offers a relaxed and informal approach to education, and we have managed to create a pleasant environment, which is conducive to the learning processes of our students.

Good student performance
On daily basis Tech College Mariagerfjord has approximately 100 VET students. Due to our comprehensive student counselling efforts and not least due to the good performance of our students, we have so far managed to secure education contracts for 90 % of our students upon completion of the basic course, thus allowing them to move on to the main course, which is an alternation between company based work practice and colleges based school modules. With this record, Tech College Mariagerfjord is far above the national average for successful transition from basic to main VET programmes.

A part of Tech College Aalborg
At the organisational level Tech College Mariagerfjord is a part of Tech College Aalborg – previously known as Aalborg Technical College. Founded more than 200 years ago, Tech College Aalborg is one of the largest VET institutions in Denmark. In our context, it serves as the referral college, where the graduates from Tech College Mariagerfjord complete the school part of their main programme in order to become fully qualified craftsmen.

The global challenge
Danish VET colleges have a long tradition of being engaged in international cooperation projects. The idea is to open the minds of both teachers and students to the world, and to ensure that we equip our graduates with the international competencies that are needed in the globalised labour market.

A Danish support scheme, ‘Work Placement Abroad’ (in Danish “PIU”), makes it possible for Danish VET students to do all – or part of – the company-based training included in their chosen VET programme abroad. Tech College Mariagerfjord offers advice and assistance to students, who would like to take this unique opportunity, and we link up with Tech College Aalborg in connection with other types of international cooperation projects.
